The Town of Griswold is located approximately 10 miles north of Norwich and approximately 50 miles east of Hartford. Griswold operates under the Selectman – Town Meeting form of government. The Borough of Jewett City, which occupies one square mile, has its own charter and is governed by a warden and four burgesses within the government of Griswold.

Griswold Public Schools (GPS) offer a comprehensive educational program to over 2,200 students in grades PreK through 12. This program includes core academics, fine and applied arts, health and fitness, and career pathway offerings as well as special education, remedial support, an alternative high school and a talented and gifted program.
GPS is comprised of Griswold Elementary School (Grades K-4), Griswold Middle School (Grades 5-8), Griswold High School (Grades 9-12) and Griswold Alternative School. GPS also has various education and development programs including a NAEYC accredited Preschool, and Adult Education program, a Summer program and a Child Development Center.
