The remit of the Health Team is to lead the community’s investigation into the state of our children’s health and identify indicators around which could affect positive change.
The team has found that over 26% of our children enter Kindergarten overweight or obese, an alarming statistic that grows as each year passes. Their strategies to reverse this trend include: Implementing child/family centered programs on healthy nutrition and lifestyle; supporting the school to improve nutrition education and increase physical activity; and launching a physical fitness campaign for children and their families. They are also trying to understand the mental health of our young children and what needs remain unmet.
The time for our Health Team meetings has recently changed to the afternoon from 3:30-5:00 to increase attendance/membership. Meetings take place in Room 3103 in the former preschool wing of Griswold High School on the following dates:
